Sam & Ryan - Playa Conchal, Guanacaste, Costa Rica - Destination Wedding
I was incredibly excited to photograph Sam and Ryan's Costa Rica destination wedding this past December! I "met" Sam over an email - through my cousin actually who attends dental school with her at Marquette. She saw photos I had done in my VERY early stages of photography, of my cousin's (also named Sam) wedding. Without ever meeting in person, she, for some insane reason, decided to book me - just like that, as their photographer, for their destination wedding, in another country, and I just about died with excitement. A few weeks later we got together at a Harley-Davidson celebration ceremony with music, dancing, and a lotttttt of beer of course and I finally was able to see how great Sam and Ryan are! Finally meeting definitely got me super excited for their wedding - more about that in the next blog post covering the whole trip! Sam's parents both live in Costa Rica, so the beach of Playa Conchal was the perfect getaway to choose for their destination wedding. They started planning over a year in advance to enable guests to save up for the festivities.
It was our fourth day in Costa Rica and finally time for a wedding! At 11 am I headed to Sam and Ryan's room where the girls were to get ready over mimosas, fresh fruit, and of course cheese (we're from Wisconsin after all). Their room was absolutely gorgeous with a living area, a bedroom, two bathrooms, a beautiful patio and outdoor bathtub. The rest of the girls' hair and makeup was done in the suite along with the bride. Sam's gorgeous lace detailed dress, along with her coral bridesmaids' dresses are from Germaine's Bridal in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin - perfect for a relaxing beach wedding.
After spending the morning with the girls, the ceremony was creeping up and I left to go meet the guys. Walking alone, with monkeys jumping over my head, definitely freaked me out, but I made it to the Ryan and his guys where they were sharing Imperial beer and blackberry brandy. I loved their short sleeve button-up RVCA shirts (my absolute most favorite brand ever) and grey pants. After greeting some guests at the bar, it was time to say, "I do!" on the beach.
In awe of the amazing scenery, guests took their seats. The ceremony was ridiculously gorgeous and luckily, shaded, situated just on the edge of the coast. It was absolutely the most perfect day. After the ceremony and portraits, delicious hors d'oeuvres and a lot of drinks were served by the time the wedding party arrived at the Imperial Bar and deck inside the resort. Sam used burlap accents and various shells along with string lights to perfectly complete the beachy Costa Rican atmosphere. Everyone took their seats for dinner where dishes of ceviché, seafood paella, and the build-your-own pasta bar were among the favorites. Then it was time to party! DJ played the most perfect songs and definitely knew how to keep the party going. It was SO. MUCH. FUN. The rest of the images definitely speak for themselves! I couldn't have asked for a better bride and groom along with their great family and friends, than Sam & Ryan. It was absolutely incredible. Pura vida!
