Apple Picking at the Elegant Farmer - Mukwonago, WI
Looking for something fun to do this fall? This was our second or third year apple picking at The Elegant Farmer and oh has it become a wonderful fall tradition. About 20/25 minutes south of Milwaukee, it's a super easy day trip PACKED with fall activities. It's nice to get out of the city once in a while! Especially during fall when the air is as crisp as the apples and the colors of the leaves are changing right before your eyes. Open Saturdays & Sundays 10a-5p, it's a blast!
I grew up in East Troy a few more minutes south and we somehow never spent much time here in fall, although we did visit the store often for their famous Apple Pie Baked in a Paper Bag® (yes, it's actually baked in a paper bag!), fresh produce, and delicious other bakery items. If you don't have much to spend, you can DEFINITELY still enjoy the family time no matter your age and a great experience!
With free parking and free admission, you literally can spend what you want. If you want to go take the little ones for a hay or pony ride, wander through the corn maze, bring some apples or pumpkins home, or chow down on some seriously delicious pulled pork sandwiches, chili dogs, loaded baked potatoes, caramel apples or cider donuts (my mouth is watering just typing this) it is totally up to you! And don't forget the hot apple cider to warm your belly as you walk through the orchard picking your apples! Yum!
We always fill our bellies before heading out into the fields and today was no different. Their food is incredibly delicious! We had the BBQ pulled pork, loaded baked potatoes, and of course some pie!
Out into the fields we went, in search of Golden Delicious, Honey Crisp, Granny Smith, and Royal Gala. These are our favorites, although they have quite the selection of apples! It was a little gloomy but that definitely didn't stop us. It actually was quite the perfect day! We grabbed a basket at entrance where you choose which size you'd like to fill with your own apples.
It's exceptionally easy to find the trees with the apples you're looking for. They're marked with different colored and striped flags which you can compare to your information sheet found in your basket. Grab your apples any way you'd like - reach them from the ground, gently climb the trees, or use the many ladders placed around the orchard. Grab a pumpkin from the patch as well, and don't forget your apple cider donuts!
I'd love to know if you've been to The Elegant Farmer and what you think of it. I'd also love to hear if you have any other great fall traditions I need to try out! Happy fall y'all!
